BPSR DEVELOPS GUIDE ON IMPROVING PERFORMANCE OF AGENCIES & PARASTATALS

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms has developed a guide on “How to Manage and Reform Government Agencies and Parastatals”.

The document provides practical guidance to Chief Executives of Agencies and Parastatals on best practice in managing Government establishments. It covers issues such as managing Boards, Procurement, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Service Delivery and Change Management.

During the public presentation of the document in Abuja recently, the Director General of the Bureau, Dr. Joe Abah said that the guide includes a web-based Self-Assessment Tool with which Agencies can assess their own performance and set out ways for improvement. The Bureau has successfully piloted the tool in the Federal Road Safety Commission and the Nigeria Communications Commission. Dr. Abah has also briefed Chief Executives of Agencies and Parastatals about the tool during a retreat in Lagos on March 16th 2016.
The Bureau has entered the Agency Improvement Tool in this year’s Public Innovation Award for the 2016 Commomwealth Association of Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) biennial Conference holding later this year.
