Represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary Service Policy and Strategic Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed, the Head of Service said that the platform represents a major policy shift from the traditional manual system to electronic system.

He said that the unified e-mail platform is one of the initiatives of government aimed at ensuring that information and communication technology tools are utilized to assist in attaining a more efficient effective and accessible Federal Civil Service.

Mr. Kifasi further stressed that it is in tandem with his sincere desire to bequeath a Civil Service that is performance and result oriented, customer service focused, technologically driven, responsible to the public and service delivery conscious. Stressing further that, the Federal Civil Service has been re-positioned to fully leverage on ICT as a tool for good governance and effective service delivery.

The Head of Service pointed out that the e-mail system that is been roiled out by the Honourable Minister of Communication Technology, has been standardized and cuts across all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government and urged every staff of the Federal Civil Service to start the use of the official e-mails for non-confidential inter and intra office communication.

Earlier in her address, the Honourable Minister of Communication Technology Dr. Omobola Johnson stated that the unified e-mail platform that has been unveiled is not only efficient but sustainable.

She said that the platform affords us the opportunity to messaging and collaboration, which she said is a small but very important tool for e-government in the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Minister further stated that the unified e-mail platform will reduce the volume of paper correspondence among officers and management in the Public Service.

As part of the e-government initiative, she said, switch to .gov.ng will not only enable the delivery of government business over a more sure and robust technology platform, but it will also promote our Nigerian National Cyber Identity on the internet.
