FGN APPROVED TECHNICAL WORKING COMMITTEE ON REBRANDING OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT IN FEDERAL PUBLIC SERVICE

The Federal Government of Nigeria have approved the constitution of a Technical Working Committee on Rebranding-Information Management in the Federal Public Service.

Speaking at a two-day training workshop on Reform Communication and Rebranding of Information Officer, organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR), Mr. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) who represented the Federal Government at the event disclosed that the Technical Working Committee will have as members:

(a) Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation
(b) Federal Ministry of Information and Culture
(c) Federal Ministry of Justice
(d) Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)
(e) Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON)
(f) Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) as Member/Secretary

The SGF Mr. Boss Mustapha commended the efforts of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) in collaboration with the European Union support to the Federal Governance Reform Programme (EU-SUFEGOR) to put together the training for information management in the Federal Public Service.

While delivering his keynote address, the SGF highlighted some of the objectives of the workshop as follows:

(i) To improve the capacity of the Information Officer to communicate effectively using simple easy-to-understand language;

(ii) Increase the ability of the Information Officer to communicate government policies and programmes graphically using modern information technology and other social media;

(iii) Further deepen understanding of the freedom of Information Act;

(iv) Improve ability to choose the most cost-effective means and channels of communication; and

(v) Strengthen ability of the information officers to communicate government reform initiatives and actions to stakeholders and citizens.

Assuring the participants of the present administration’s unflinching support towards enhancing their working environment, Mr. Boss Mustapha’s enjoined them to put maximum use of the knowledge gained towards the realization of Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari’s Next Level Agenda.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the Director-General (BPSR) Mr. D. I. Arabi, stated that to further improve on quality of information released to the public by information officers in MDAs, BPSR, in collaboration with APCON and other stakeholders is embarking on a programme to re-brand Nigeria Public Service with special emphasis on management of information aimed at efficient and smarter public service.

The workshop which drew forty (40) Information Officer from (40) MDAs ended on Wednesday, 15th May, 2019.
