BPSR MEETS WITH DFID-PERL FOR THE REVIEW OF MoU BETWEEN BOTH PARTIES
Ag. DG BPSR, D.I Arabi and the staff of BPSR held meeting with the Review Team of DFID-PERL as part of its quality assurance measures – a yearly review of DFID-PERL programmes to ensure improve support to the Bureau. Mr. D.I Arabi, BPSR and team of DFID-PERL discussed elaborately in order to examine the working modalities and possibly review the Memorandum of Understanding earlier signed by both parties. This was disclosed at the meeting held this week at the conference room of the Bureau. He explained that the MoU sets out the guiding principles and commitments of both parties. He therefore used the opportunity to highlight the concluded programmes and the on-going ones being carried out by BPSR. He also informed that BPSR had worked with PERL on the modalities to improve access to
fertilizers, seeds, and crops production and that the report was presented to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
Another step taken by the Bureau was the Roundtable with the support of PERL on identifying the common constraints to Tackling Youth Unemployment in Nigeria. At the end of the summit, BPSR came up with a policy note that contained recommendations to addressing the immediate and long-tern aspects of youth unemployment in Nigeria. Arabi reiterated that most of the on-going programmes listed out by the Bureau are capital intensive and would need to get more financial and technical support as much as possible to enable the Bureau implement them. He deliberated extensively on the need for PERL to review its initial commitment in terms of funding in order to accommodate these programmes. He noted that they are not new programmes but that the current administration on assumption of office has
injected some ideas into the programmes to re-jig them for real effectiveness. The forth coming important engagement of the Bureau is the induction Programme for the newly constituted Board of MDAs and CEOs. This is scheduled for July, 2018. He hinted that this first batch is sponsored by DFID-PERL and solicited for more support from them to conduct the induction of the remaining 17 batches.
Responding, Mr. Jonas Pohlmanno of DFID-PERL commended the efforts and accountability and progress which the Bureau has made over the years and further encouraged it to keep up the good work.
