President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his administration’s continuous commitment in the fight against corruption through the Federal Government Financial Transparency Policy and open Treasury Portal, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning.

The president who was represented by the Minister of State for Niger Delta, Tayo Alasoadura, made this known while launching the Financial Transparency Policy and Open Treasury Portal on Monday in Abuja.

While commending the efforts of the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna, he also tasked the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmad Idris, Ministries and Departments and Agencies to embrace transparency as a vehicle through which fiscal disciplined can be entrenched for the benefits of the future generations.

“this policy is implemented to facilitate the fight against corruption through partnership building not only to encourage transparency but also enforce it at all levels of government. That is why the policy is aimed at making available financial information to civil society organizations and the entire populace by all MDA’s of the federal government

“By doing this, it will consolidate my promise and efforts to improve governance, build public trust in government and supplement recently launched whistle-blower policy which will equip the general population with the tools they need to report financial wrongdoings” he emphasized.

Similarly, the Finance Minister, Mrs. Shamsuna Ahmad, added that the policy and portal launched, will further compliment the anticorruption crusade by this administration and improve the economy.

Adding that public confidence and economic development are inseparable, it is also vital in building public confidence and cut cost in financing public administration.

“the policy was formulated to conform with global world practices inline with the government’s stand against corruption which is vital in building confidence of different economic actors to propel the governance of public affairs” she noted.

Meanwhile, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmad Idris, also commended the efforts of the federal government in serving as a vanguard that promotes new reform initiatives by deepening existing ones in the country. Adding that the nation has received uncommon commitment to fight corruption thereby, promoting developmental and economic wellbeing.

“With the launching of these transparency guidelines and portal, this administration has again recorded another achievement by opening its book to the public, thereby taking transparency and accountability in governance to the next level.  

“The launching of the Open Treasury Portal will go a long way in generating confidence of the citizenry in government; and at the same time putting government agencies on their toes.  The launching of this portal today reinforces this Administration’s determination to fight corruption frontally” he emphasized.

The Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Dasuki Arabi, who was represented by the Director Finance, Mr. Wayegari Gulak noted that, as part of its mandate to coordinate, evaluate and monitor the implementation of reforms in MDA’s, it will ensure that this reform initiative is not only implemented but geared towards the realization of its main objective.
