Humanitarian Affairs Ministry’s Effort Alleviating IDPs’ Plights–Arabi

he Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, BPSR, Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, has lauded the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, in alleviating the plights of victims of both natural and man-made disasters, across the country.

Arabi, said the Ministry, through its various departments and agencies has been working tirelessly to provide relief material to victims of various disasters, especially Internally Displaced People (IDPs), over the last two years.

He stated these at the November edition of their Bureau’s Lunch-Time Seminar Series, held in Abuja, on Wednesday.

The reform seminar, with the theme, “Humanitarian Policies And Effective Coordination Of National And International Humanitarian Disaster Mitigation, Preparedness And Responses Intervention In The Face Of Global Pandemic: The Nigerian Experience,” had the Hajia Sadiya Umar Faruq, Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, as guest speaker.

According to Arabi, the theme of the event was carefully selected to discuss the current global trends in disaster management, and what Nigeria could do, at its own capacity, to address them.

He said: “You will believe with me that with the present global health emergency of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which affected virtually everything, the security challenges of banditry, kidnapping and insurgency, the early offset of rain this year which affected farmers yield, as well as flood in some areas, coupled with many other problems bedevilling our dear country, there is no better time to hold this kind of discussion than now.”

The BPSR Director General, said the Humanitarian Affairs ministry is mandated to position itself in the light of the prevailing Humanitarian situation in the country through its Vision, Mission and Core values to promote Human dignity and Integration of basic Humane benevolence and compassion in the treatment of all Nigerians.

Arabi, maintained that the Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq-led Ministry has done so much to support victims of both natural and man-made disasters.

“It is our hope and prayer that this seminar today would bring to the limelight, issues that will bring out the desired change to stakeholders and policymakers, which will be beneficial, incisive and captivating,” he said.
